Since the introduction of autofill on Mac, macOS automatically recognizes two-factor authentication codes or OTP in text messages and gives you an option to autofill them in the required field, making the whole experience seamless.
You can find it helpful for online transactions as you won’t have to hunt for your iPhone to get the required OTP. However, if you use your phone number as two-factor authentication, receiving text messages on your Mac makes more sense. To me, receiving them on my Mac serves no purpose other than adding another source of distraction. Text messages are generally used by companies to send promotional and transactional messages.
